The hunt for the best mashed potato in Singapore, part 44

24 Jul 2009: After work, I headed to Vittles. It was about 10 minutes walk from my office. The reason for checking out Vittles was because I have found out that Vittles serves mashed potato!

After much thinking, I ordered the Parmesan Coated Fish Fillet (Dory Fish coated with Parmesan Cheese), with mashed potato and mixed veggies. This set will costs $9.90 with the reduced pricing. In addition, I ordered the gratinated potato that costs $1.50 per serving. The gratinated potato is actually sliced potato with gratinated cheese. It is a delightful and interesting side-dish that one will normally not get in most restaurants.

Vittles has reduced its pricing from 15% to 25% since the beginning of the year to help its customers cope with the economic recession. I think it is a thoughtful and generous gesture.

The mashed potato has an above-average taste. While its texture is not entirely consistent, I like the texture for its unpretentious, natural and earthly characteristics. Certainly, this mashed potato will not be made from instant mashed potato flakes. This place is one that serves mashed potato made from real potato!

The sauce that went with the mashed potato enhances the flavour of the mashed potato. It reminded me of chicken-stock flavour that is delightful and light in taste.

The main dish, i.e. the Parmesan Coated Fish Fillet adds interest to the palate. It is an innovative and good idea to coat the dory with Parmesan cheese. It adds an interesting flavour to the dory fillet. The tomato salsa adds a tinge of refreshing flavour to the fish. Food blog, ieatishootipost, has written a review of Vittles, and it is worth a read.

The mashed potato is above average, and while it is not the best in Singapore, I will be happy to return to Vittles for the mashed potato because of its good food, affordable pricing, and thoughtful services. Furthermore, there is free-flow pop-corns and ice-water for every customers. The place has a generally cosy and peaceful ambience. Vittles is a place which I would think would deserve our patronage.

With this post, I wish my friend to whom this series of posts is dedicated to: Deservingly, the very best in life!
