Songwriting: Goodbye to what we knew

Perhaps it's time 

That we knew will never be back again

When no hope was left

To mend the broken ones back again

Maybe it's a sign 

To start anew and create something from zero again

Perhaps it's time

We bid farewell to each other forever

I am sorry I could not ever make sense

What could heal that crack between us

Maybe it's a sign

Of a deep space we could hold for one another

Goodbye to what we knew that's so familiar

Goodbye to the yesterday we used to know

Thank you for the memories that we share

Goodbye if we never come back square one again.

Maybe the yesterday we knew was not a time-based reality

But an eternity we have created to heal

All of that rifts in this world we once knew

Goodbye to what we knew that's so familiar

Thank you for the memories that we share

Relief is here!

There is grief in my heart
As heavy as the pouring rain
Unexpectedly the sun sneaks in with its gentle rays
Shines through a bead of my fallen tears

The double rainbow appears
Lending a lighthearted lift to my shattered soul
Reminding that relief is here,
Right now.

(Notes: This evening, I saw a double rainbow from the Art Science Museum. Sighting the rainbow inspired me to write this poem.)

I surrender

I surrender.
To the silence of the night,
I surrender my darkest emotions:
Anguish, confusion, disappointments, sadness and more.

And have the faith that
The angels of the night,
Shall transform this silence into
Echoes that sing the music from the heavenly realms.

A message to the Sun

Dear Sun,
Could you please write me a caring message
On a droplet of water with your rays?

To paint a lovely rainbow across the skies.
Turn the gloomy colour of the monsoon season
To a healing palette of the sacred

Bringing ease to the pain
Of my roots growing deeper into the earth
Under the beams of your loving rays.

At year's End

We bless this year for all we learned,
For all we loved and lost
And for the quiet way it brought us
Nearer to our invisible destination.

I came across a lovely poem by John O'Dononhue, and thought of sharing part of it here. It seems that one of the most appropriate way to end the year is to give thanks. Thank you for your care, your wishes, and for being there.

Dona Nobis Pacem

"Dona Nobis Pacem". This is Latin for "Grant Us Peace".


I came across this BlogBlast for Peace 2010 and would like to contribute my humble part to adding to world peace.

Here's a simle poem to wish for peace.

The Angst
The Rage
The fears
Fueling a war

Compassion sets in
And love prevails
Dissolves all fears
Strengthens our hope
That in a world blessed with peace
All needs could be met
And progress is made
For the highest good

I ask

The daily toils
Brings pleasure and pain
Being mortal
Means one faces life and finally death

When vulnerability sets in
My heart yearns for hope
Yet the soul is still healing from the wounds
Needing to tolerate imperfections and trials

I ask
Be tender
Be loving
Be that vessel that contains
The broken me

So that
The wounds could heal
From the comfort of your care
And the respite from the storms

The deepest dreams

Look ahead!
Imagine what the future beholds
And yet
What ambitions do I have?

Lots of it
Perhaps too much
Becoming confusing
Uncertain which is the one to hold dear

Would the heart guide?
Then I ask
For silence and solitude
Please allow me to hear clearly
My heart's deepest dreams.

It starts with a single step

The steep cliffs
The tall mountains
Awes me
Inspires me
The beauty
Consumes

Remember such a sight
Would not have been possible
If not for the courage to start the journey
And the determination to get to destined point

Pressing on

The void
The darkness
The edge
The pang and vulnerability
And yet what force is it
That consumes
That beckons one forward
To stay alive
Against the odds?

Hope
for
Betterment

The message

Speak and hum to the river.
The waves, the vibrations,
Are poetic messengers
Of the life in one's voice.

I played on the double bass this evening.
It brought a moment of relief.
The heart is in need of ease,
So that it can rediscover focus
And take comfort in what music can bring.

Untie the knots

The knots and more knots
Seems to be tying inside my tummy
Are they signs and red flags
Alerting that the world needs care and order?

Energies that need to be unblocked
Knots that need to be untied
How to start?
Where to start?
What is needed?
I ask for guidance to lead to the answers.

I ask for care and guidance

In a time when directions and purposes need to be clarified
When much is unknown
Hope is there
Answers yet to be found
What brings a moment of relief to the day
Is being kind to oneself to find beauty in the daily mundane.

Labrador Jetty

A good friend of mine told me that it would be therapeutic to be at the beach. In the hope to get some therapy from Mother Nature, I took a trip to Labrador Beach. Of all the beaches in Singapore, I decided that Labrador Beach shall be the one to visit for that day. It was a weekend on 12 Apr 2009, so I could take bus service 408 to Labrador Park.

The bus stopped me at a bus-stop that was within walking distance from the start of the aerial staircase. From the aerial staircase at Labrador Park, I could get a nice view of Labrador Jetty. I would have stood there at the aerial staircase if there had been a seat to sit on. Nevertheless, even though there was no seat, I was already offered a marvellously beautiful sight of the sea and the Labrador Jetty from the aerial staircase.

If you have a love for aerial views of the sea and beaches, Labrador Park is a good place to visit. The Labrador Jetty when seen against the sunset skies looked particularly quiet and dignified. Perhaps that was why many had visited the Labrador Jetty for the unique view that it offered.

As I was writing this post and looking at the photos, inspirations for a short poem came to my mind:

Time seems to have froze
I ask,
What do I need out of Life?
Then strangely
Many achievements in life become not as important
As a moment when one awes in the beauty of Nature.

I wonder how life would have been if it had been much simpler?

I ask for Help

Perplexed, in deep thoughts,
In constant quest
When the lone force strives
Will it be against the currents
Or going with the flow?

What is the bigger plan?
I have no idea.
Humbly, I ask for guidance
And for enthusiasm
To embrace the challenges ahead

Tests come in the form of adversities
They shall make one stronger and wiser
And before darkness wears the heart
May I ask for Help?

I'm here for you

Sail and find your dreams
I shall be your customised port
Here for you
To anchor and restock
And to shield you from the storms and waves
When you decided that it's time to return

I give thanks

I am thankful
For the challenges that had to be met
They have helped me learn important lessons
That will help me grow wiser

I am thankful
For cherished friends
Who open my eyes to wider perspectives
Who lent their care so that I can have the faith
To wait for light to appear when it was dark

I am thankful
That Life has been gracious
Despite my flaws and failings
I was forgiven unscathed

And the road ahead
I am thankful
It was still the same uncertain road
Yet my mind and soul
Now finds enthusiasm and kindness
To walk it with greater stride.

The tears that have done me good

I am feeling them.
That there are tears trickling in my heart,
And I've been crying deep down.
Grateful am I for the tears
For they have done me good.
To realise that there are friendships in my life that I deeply treasure.
Indeed "what is essential is invisible to the eye"
As said in Chapter 21 of The Little Prince
by Antoine de Saint Exupéry

Life becomes meaningful
Because I care enough to feel deeply
And each memory becomes positive
Because each moment is worth cherishing
