5 May 2011: Arrival at Sydney and the lunch at BBQ King


5 May 2011 (Thu): I knew I was in Sydney when I looked out of the window of my flight and caught a glimpse of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. This monumental structure was big enough to be recognised from the plane.

The Sydney Airport has underwent some major refurbishment and I was pleasantly pleased with the many positive changes to this newly refurbished airport. My mother and I took one of the airport shuttle buses to get us to our accommodation located in Sydney city.


We were early for the check-in time of 2 p.m. Thankfully, the team at Oaks Goldsbrough Apartments was thoughtful. My mother and I were allowed to place our luggages at a secured storage area, and the staff attending to us swiftly helped to get the paperwork done first. When the room was ready for us to check-in a few hours later, we were pleasantly delighted with the room and its kitchen facilities.

My mother and I then headed for lunch at B.B.Q. King along 18 - 20 Goulburn Street.


The servings at B.B.Q. King was very generous. The two meals that we had ordered came with complimentary Chinese tea and soup. My mother said that the roasted meat and the roasted duck that we had ordered were very nicely done and delicious. Please trust her then as she has eaten more roasted meat than I have had.

The noodles tasted wonderful too. I love the taste of the stir-fried fresh vegetables that complimented the various dishes that we had ordered. The soup was tasty and I finished most of the soup. The chef at B.B.Q. King does seem to take good pride in preparing delicious meals.

The decor and ambiance of B.B.Q. King is basic and modest. Nevertheless, this place is a good option for folks who enjoy a generous serving of tasty roasted meat and more. Our lunch was considered affordable at a total of less than AUS$30 for two meals. Ladies or folks with small appetite may wish to share a meal with someone else with similar light appetite.

Following our lunch, we decided to visit one of the local supermarkets, Coles. I have learnt from my mother about how the prices and types of the groceries in Singapore and Sydney differ.

The night was spent taking a ferry from Circular Quay to Milsons Point and to Pyrmont Bay wharf. I enjoyed the ride on the ferry. The night skies were mesmerising. Perhaps the greatest challenge for me that night was to figure out how to take good quality photographs of the night using the new Canon Digital IXUS 1000HS camera under low-light condition. After looking at the photographs that I had taken at night, I felt that I would need more good practice and some good tips to do better. Please share with me your tips if you would like to.



That night, we headed for the land-of-dreams as early as we could. Rest is necessary to enjoy the better days to come.

Hi Kyh, The weather was good there. I could only remember that it had rained briefly for an hour throughout the 7 days that I was there.
