A few days ago, I took time out to have lunch with my maternal grandmother who's now living alone. After the lunch, as she was looking for a piece of furniture, I gladly accompanied her out.
Strangely, what seemed to be quite easy for me, i.e. to travel about places in Singapore, particularly the Suntec City and Marina Square area, could proved to be a challenge for my elderly grandmother. She was trying to find her bearings throughout our journey. Then again, she seemed delighted to be out.
Perhaps setting time aside to spend with the elders could mean more to them than we could realise?

definitely! they do enjoy being out, but they need to have rest breaks and toilet breaks now and then. they don't see too clearly too, so uneven floors or steps and glass panels have to be pointed out.
old folks enjoy company and they're always so delighted to talk about their stories, over and over...this is how you can tell they enjoy your company. My heart ache everytime I see old folks walking alone
My elderly in-laws do not enjoy going out. My mother-in-law who is 90 has never been to a supermarket nor any mall. In Singapore. Incredible, right?
misti: Aiya, now that you reminded me...I had forgotten to ask if my grandma had wanted toilet breaks when I was out with her. Though i tried to watch out for uneven floors etc....

eastcoastlife: Not quite incredible....perhaps it is just hard for elderlys of their generation to get around without a company. My grandma also don't go out unless she has company, or it is a place that she is very familiar with. Hope your parents-in-law are in better health.
