Middle of the night

Tried to sleep
But the heart-beat was racing fast
Hard to shake off the pace of the external world
To go in line with one's natural pace

So one tries to find comfort
In listening to music in the middle of the night
Music of a slower tempo
Music that eases one

At times hear the struggles within
Seek resolution
When would that be reached?
Yet, with faith this would come

Listen deeply
One would hear music that speaks the heart
Now the challenge is
To know whether to believe in it

try not to force sleep. a conscious effort to sleep works the opposite. perhaps, just do the thing you love, eg. writing or reading, until you feel like you need to sleep. don't worry about the time. just read or write until you need to doze off!
listening to light music helps. i used to leave the music on while i slept. but because i used to stay with older folks, i couldn't, because i needed to hear their calls in the middle of the night if there was an emergency.

my personal cure for insomnia: i pray a little prayer and clutch my rosary, and i guiltily sleep with prayers half said and rosary still in hand.
