Cool Insider's post: Putting the Spin on Classical Music

Cool Insider, an experienced marketer and publicist in the lifestyle and heritage sector, has written a post to share his views on marketing classical music to the masses. Check it out here: Putting the Spin on Classical Music.

Here's a quote from a segment of Cool Insider's post:
Firstly, it (classical music) needs to bring down the "intimidation" factor. Have you noticed how classical music performances are usually done in grand and imposing concert halls?...

Hmm...on being less intimidating, and developing fun and friendly personalities, I wonder if people would be keen to listen to a performance by the double bass quartet, d'Bassists, if they were to see the following photo of the quartet?

Hey you guys look quite cool man... Now all you need is some glamour shots treatment and professionally taken photos and voila! Double bassing can be the hip thing to do!

Misti: Thank you very much. Would you be free either on 30 or 31 May 2007 (31 May is Vesak Day)?

This double bass quartet which I am playing in will be presenting 30 minutes performance at Esplanade Concourse on 30 and 31 May 2007. 7.30 - 8 p.m., 8.45 - 9.15 p.m. Hope you could at least come for one for the sets.

Eastcoastlife: Could you please tell me more about your proposal for the makeover? I have to discuss with the rest of the quartet members first leh. And gosh, it might be stressful to get ECL to do a makeover cos you seem to have high expectations. *Winks*

Hope you would be free to listen to our quartet's performance on 30 and 31 May 07. You may bring company along. It's free.

those are my peak hours and i'm usually short-handed. i'll keep in mind, and if no one books those timings in my studios, i'll run out and catch your programme okay?

I think when people think of symphony they associate the audience as wearing tuxedos and evening dresses. Conversation is limited to the arts and artistes. Really hoity toity.

Music needs to be shown that it is fun and uplifting. The double bass section looks fun in that candid shot. Much of the inhibitions are removed as when you are all dressed formally for a concert.
