I've passed with Merit

I just received my results and certificate for the ABRSM Music Theory exams (Grade 6) this evening when I went for music theory lesson. I have passed with Merit.

I did pretty well for the fourth and fifth sections of the Grade 6 exams. I almost scored full marks for these sections. However, based on the results, I would still needed more work on harmony and melody-writing. While I do acknowledge I needed more work on melody-writing, I had thought that my foundation in harmony would be reasonable enough to score me better marks. It looks like I have to study harmony in greater depth.

Whatever it is, I have passed with a merit. My tutor said one has to score from 80 - 89 to earn a merit, 90 and above to earn a distinction. I scored 82 marks.

It looks like I have to work smarter and harder to earn myself the Hedy King Robinson award when I take Grade 8 Music Theory Exams sometime next year. Cheer for me please.

Congratulations PY! Well done. *applause*

My daughter did well in her auditions too. Though it sounds like the scoring is recorded differently here.

BTW I bought some drumsticks and a practice pad too. Feels good to play rudiments again. :)

most importantly, you must enjoy the process, PY.

Emily: Thanks a lot. Yup, it matters more if I have understood the concepts than if I won the prize. Of course, it doesn't hurt to have a prize.

Misti: Thank you for your support and encouragement.

SA: Thank you for cheering for me. The scoring is for music theory, and it is quite strict. Making music is fun!

Kimmie: Thank you for coming by and for your most appreciated cheers. :)
I was trying to view your blog, but the link from your name did not work.

hip-hip-hooray for you! 82 is such high score in my books; I usually do lower than that in my piano exams a long long time ago... heheh!

good luck in your Grade 8 exams!

Congrats, girl.

But I think it will get more and more difficult. I hated all the theory and practical music tests/exams. And never got to complete them :(

Congrats on passing with Merit! BTW, I like how you're doing a 'related posts' at the bottom of some of your posts. Isn't it a great way for people to find other things you've written and links to other interesting sites? Hope you're doing well!

Pinkie: Thank you.

Tigerfish: Thank you. I learnt that I only enjoy my exams if I have prepared for them well in advance.

Jason: Thank you for the wishes. I saw a few other bloggers putting related posts at the bottom of their post, so I decided to do similarly in my own way too.
